Online Physiotherapy in London

Online Consultations from Home

Online physiotherapy, sometimes called telehealth, is the use of virtual technology to deliver physiotherapy outside of the in-clinic environment. It allows you to interact with your therapist via live video and allows us to ask all the necessary questions to assess, diagnose and advise you on how to manage your symptoms at home, including demonstrating self-mobilising techniques and exercises as needed. We’re also able to tailor and update your treatment and any rehab or training programme via our app.

If you are in a remote location or simply don’t have time for traffic, parking and waiting rooms, an online physio consultation could help.

Online physiotherapy appointments follow a structured process similar to an in-person consultation. Your physiotherapist will begin by discussing your symptoms, medical history and how your condition affects your daily activities. This allows them to understand the problem and identify the factors that may be contributing to your pain or movement difficulties.

During the session, you may be guided through a series of movements or simple functional tests so your physiotherapist can assess posture, mobility and strength. Based on this assessment, they will explain their findings and provide personalised advice, exercises and strategies to support your recovery.

Many patients find telehealth appointments helpful for follow-up care, rehabilitation guidance, and managing ongoing conditions without needing to travel to the clinic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can physiotherapy really work online?

Yes, online physiotherapy can be genuinely effective for assessment, exercise prescription, education and progress monitoring, with research supporting good outcomes for many musculoskeletal and pelvic health conditions. It works particularly well for guidance, movement coaching and reviewing home exercise programmes. Some hands-on treatments aren’t possible remotely, so suitability depends on your specific condition and goals.

Which conditions are suitable for online physiotherapy?

Many conditions suit online physiotherapy well, including back and neck pain, general exercise rehabilitation, postnatal recovery advice, pelvic floor guidance and ongoing programme reviews. It’s less suitable when hands-on manual therapy or an internal pelvic examination is clinically necessary. Your physiotherapist can advise during initial screening whether online, in-person or a combination best suits your needs.

What do I need for an online physiotherapy appointment?

You’ll need a stable internet connection, a device with camera and microphone, and enough space to move freely and be clearly visible on screen. Wearing clothing that allows your physiotherapist to observe relevant joints or movements helps assessment accuracy. A quiet, private space is particularly important for pelvic health or sensitive discussions during your appointment.

How long is an online physiotherapy session?

Online sessions are typically the same length as in-person appointments, usually around forty-five minutes for an initial assessment and thirty minutes for follow-up sessions. This allows enough time for a thorough discussion, movement assessment, exercise teaching and questions. Your physiotherapist will confirm the exact session length when booking your appointment.

When would I need to come into the clinic instead?

You’d need an in-person appointment when hands-on manual therapy, internal pelvic examination or detailed physical testing is clinically necessary, or if your condition isn’t progressing as expected online. Many people combine both approaches, starting online and transitioning to in-person sessions at our Bloomsbury clinic when needed, or the reverse depending on convenience and clinical need.

I'm so grateful for Fara's treatment during my pregnancy. Fara helped to relieve my sciatic nerve and lower back pain, amongst other pregancy related aches. She has also provided me with further guidance to prepare me for birth. I highly reccomend Fara and Physioreform.

Fara is a fantastic physio. She is knowledgeable, informative and patient. I was seeing her for several months after a horrible ankle injury and surgery. Even after my 1st session my walking (and confidence) improved and all these months later I’m back doing everything I want to. She even made my recovery process fun!

Fara was recommended to me by my spine surgeon back in 2017, and I have been seeing her regularly for 9 years. I am happy to say I’ve been 100% painfree since my microdiscettomy operation, thanks to a combination of reformer Pilates and Fara’s top treatment of my back, with physiomassage and updated exercises. She always checks my progress and keeps me monitored, adjusting treatment as required. I have degenerative disk disease, and so am especially grateful to Fara for my improvement, and for being fully active and painfree all these years. She is moreover completely reliable, honest and courteous, a pleasure to work with and totally professional. I am happy to recommend her without hesitation — thank you Fara!

I have been receiving physiotherapy treatment for a shoulder issue and have been extremely impressed with the care and expertise provided. From the initial assessment through to the ongoing sessions, Farhana has been thorough, knowledgeable, and attentive to detail. She took time to explain the nature of the problem clearly and provided a treatment plan that addressed both the symptoms and the underlying causes. The exercises prescribed were practical and manageable, and I have noticed a significant improvement in both mobility and strength. Thank You!
